… Polished Waah breaks African record
Award-winning Tanzanian recording artiste Diamond Platinums and Congolese Soukus singer, dancer and producer, Antoine Christophe Agbepa Mumba, better known by his stage name, Koffi Olomide, have set a high musical bar.
Waah, their collaborative song, is proving to be music’s best 2020 project. It is simply polished.
Wasafi record label boss Diamond and Koffi, dropped the Waah video on Monday 30th November setting a record in the entertainment industry after garnering over 1 million views in 8 hours and 2.5 million views in just 22 hours on YouTube.
This is indeed a milestone because Waah is the first African video to clock over 2million views in less than 24 hours.
With Christmas around the corner many have been eagerly waiting for new releases from artists across Africa to usher them into the festive mood.
“Waah is the magic many have been waiting for, especially after lockdown restrictions around the globe which had made a lot of people gain weight, they now have a remedy, shake it off,” said Edson Masuka, an avid follower of Olomide.
Social media is awash with the latest video which has almost four million views on YouTube, two days after its release.
This writer is not a Rhumba fan but the level at which Diamond and Olomide played their game is lit, it made me want to rediscover myself and explore the genre.
Who could do better than Diamond and Koffi at this juncture?
Yes, a lot of artists are releasing their work but I believe a high bar has been set.
Talk of the glitz and glomour in the top notch video. The attires are so unique, especially Diamond’s suit, which has also been a subject of discussion by fashionistas and music lovers alike.
Rhumba dances have never been better, and the cinematography was just on point.
The video was directed by Director Kenny of Zoom Extra, a production company co-owned by Diamond and Kenny.
The guy is known for some of the best musical videos in Africa and this one will add more weight to his portfolio.
The pair did not set a foot wrong throughout. Indeed it was a good release, with the best delivery, at the right time.
