By Richard Kawazi
Disadvantaged families led by single parents and the elderly in Matepatepa, Bindura District recently received a boost in food supplies ahead of the festive season, Nhau/Indaba has established.

The timely boost was as a result of a partnership between World Remit and Hello Paisa which are some of Zimbabwe’s leading diaspora remittance services greatly contributing to the country’s fiscus.

Their gesture was fulfilled at a ceremony held at Mapako Primary School, were orphaned children and others from disadvantaged backgrounds received food hampers.

Socialites Lorraine Guyo, World Remit’s brand ambassador and Hello Paisa’s brand ambassador Tyra Chikocho popularly known as Madam Boss headlined the philanthropic event.

The school has been a beneficiary of World Remit initiatives since 2016 and school head Zhowa who officiated the ceremony applauded the food donations saying that it was a gleamer of hope to the families that received the food hampers.

“World Remit has always assisted us since 2016. These food donation actions will come a long way in addressing food insecurities among the families living in abject poverty…. These donations will afford the families a dignified festive season,” he said.

Beneficiaries who received the food hampers were grateful for the helping hand which they said had come at the right time.

Shushai, a single woman in her mid-30s with five children, one of them is an abandoned orphan in the community lauded the gesture.

“I am a single woman, taking care of five children. I really struggle to take care of them but these donations have come as a relief because now I know we have food to eat this December.”

Another beneficiary, Tawanda Shindi who survives on subsistence farming was also identified and is caring for his niece, an orphan.

“I am grateful that my niece was remembered at such an event. I was left to care for her after both her parents died and I happy to receive such a helping hand in such times of need,” said Shindi. Nhau/Indaba
