Fake Doctor To Remain Inside…A Danger To The Public

A 25-year-old Zimre Park man, who infiltrated Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals’ (PGH) casualty department posing as doctor, has been denied bail.

Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga told Admire Chisi that he was a danger to the public.

She said PGH was a referral centre and the department he infiltrated received people in need of prompt assistance.

“His conduct endangered the lives of patients as the department needed qualified experts not just lay persons in prescribing drugs.”

“Prescribed drugs have effects that need to be subscribed to patients and accused overlooked this,” she said.

Taruvinga told Chisi that the court was worried that he has potential to interfere with witnesses.

She said the fact raised by his defence counsel that the court must not be swayed by the local press and social media in passing its decision held no merit as section 117 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act specified conditions of granting bail which were to be followed.

In view of this, Taruvinga told Chisi that the court considered the wrath of the public if he is granted bail following his questionable conduct.

Taruvinga stated that Chisi may also be tempted to escape as he is now aware of the nature of the offence.

She said there were compelling reasons for his continuous remand in custody and it was in the interest of justice to have the case fully investigated while he was in custody.

He was remanded to November 9, 2020 for routine remand. Nhau/Indaba
