Five Men On The Run For Murder

Bindura Bureau
Members of the public are being warned against putting the law into their own hands when they apprehend suspected criminals as they are likely to face arrest, police in Bindura have said.

This follows an incident which occurred in Mazowe last Wednesday after five men allegedly bashed Langton Changaza (28) of 804 Mazowe Valley to death for allegedly stealing their money.

Mashonaland Central spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe alleged that a fortnight ago, on 15 February at around 10am, five unknown male adults approached Changaza at Nduku Business Centre, Mazowe accusing him of stealing their money and mobile phones.

“They then dragged him to his place of residence where they met his sister Merjury Hiya (28) and informed her about the incident while beating him up with sticks and open hands.”

Hiya advised them to take him to the police rather than putting the law into their hands through their kangaroo court. However, they continued beating him after ignoring her pleas.

She then sought assistance from their neighbour, Robert Chatakura who then came to her rescue and tried to drive Changaza to Concession Hospital, but he unfortunately died along the way.

The five are unknown and police are appealing for information that may lead to their identification, location and arrest.

Insp Mundembe said those who come across their suspects after a criminal incident should just approach their nearest police base or station and tip off the police rather than effecting the “instant justice” route as they risked arrest. Nhau/Indaba
