‘Fugitive’ CCC Legislator Hands Self To Police


Budiriro Constituency legislator Costa Machingauta has handed himself over to the Police following the arrest of 25 Citizens Coalition for Change activists at his house in the suburb last Saturday.

Advocate Wilbert Mandinde who is representing the 25 announced the latest development at Harare Magistrates Court Tuesday.

He said Machingauta handed himself over this morning in the company of his lawyer.

“Honourable Machingauta who was said to be a fugitive from justice yesterday in court, has handed himself over to the police this morning. He was accompanied to Harare Central CID Law and Order by his lawyer, Darlington Marange. So he is now in police custody,” he said.

The 25 were arrested for allegedly holding an illegal gathering deemed to promote public violence, breaches of peace or bigotry in violation of section 37 of the Criminal law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

Among the 25 is CCC’s Mkoba legislator and party National Organising Secretary, Amos Chibaya, three elderly citizens namely; Siros Rutsambo (81), Misheck Nyembe (72) and Wyclife Maramba (63).
