A 45 -year-old Bindura man employed as a security guard took his life using a service pistol on Sunday at a bank allegedly due to marital problems.

According to the Mashonaland Central Provincial spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe, deceased Leopard Kamuzonde (45) of 3605 Chiwaridzo 2 had social problems with his wife after accruing a debt without her knowledge.

On February 4 this year, the couple went for counseling over the issue at his sister-in-law Sibongile Bukuta’s (28) house, who is also the informant.

“After the counseling session, Kamuzonde went back home with his wife and she believed they had settled the matter amicably,” said Insp Mundembe.

“On 6 February Kamuzonde commenced duty at CBZ Bindura branch around 6am and was handed a Revolver service pistol loaded with five rounds by his colleague David Gube.”

Insp Mundembe said Kamuzonde called his sister-in-law whilst on duty apologising and telling her of his intention to take his life before sending her to apologise to his wife on his behalf over the debt.

“Before finishing their conversation Bukuta heard a gunshot and asked his brother-in-law who confessed to have shot himself at CBZ building.  Bukuta who resides in Clusters, Bindura went to the bank for confirmation and upon reaching the building saw Kamuzonde lying in a pool of blood through a gate opening,” he said.

“Bindura Central police station and the CID were informed before attending the scene for further investigations. A Revolver with four live rounds and one spent cartridge were recovered at the scene. Kamuzonde’s body was taken to Bindura Provincial hospital for postmortem.”

Insp Mundembe urged members of the public to share their problems and accept reality before making rash decisions such as taking one’s life.  Nhau/Indaba
