THE Old Mutual Heath Streak Academy has appointed Harare based retired cricketer Tafadzwa Muzarawethu as the new coach for the institution’s young cricketers.

Addressing Bulawayo journalists on Wednesday evening the Academy’s chief executive officer Joseph Rego said they were happy to bring in new brains at the institution as part of their restructuring exercise.
“The Academy has undergone a major restructuring process to achieve the highest possible standards in showcasing the institution as a world renowned center of cricket.
“As a result, the Academy has appointed Muzarawethu, a mountaineering cricketer and a prominent coach from Harare to boost the Academy’s coaching department,” Rego said.

He added: “The Academy is delighted by the presence of Sean Williams, the Zimbabwe National Cricket team captain who has been occasionally visiting the academy to impart professional training on the children and boost morale of these youngsters to develop their potential to the fullest.”
Rego said the Academy was very passionate about cricket to such an extent it is their ambition to push Zimbabwean cricket to higher levels.
“The Academy is very passionate about the sport and our aim is to ensure that our talented cricketers have the very best opportunities and a first class future which will help Zimbabwe regain her past sporting glory.
“It is my ultimate goal to turn the academy into a school of cricket and my vision of hiring professionals at the management and coaching level is bound to turn my dream to reality,” Rego said.
Speaking during the same event, the new coach Muzarawethu expressed delight on his new role in the City of Kings.
“Its not an easy task, but the good thing is I will be doing what I am passionate about, developing the young kids that will be fed straight into the national team. It is something that is achievable because there is a lot of untapped talent on the grassroots,” he said.

The Academy named after its founder and former Zimbabwe National Cricket kingpin Heath Streak trains young age groups such as under 11, 12, 13, 14,15, 16,17 and 18 who have all taken party at various international competitions.
