Harare Man Attempts Suicide, Gets Badly Injured

A Harare man is lucky to be alive after he jumped from a height of about 20 metres at the flyover along Cripps road near Mupedzanhamo Market in an apparent suicide attempt.

Nhau reporters arrived at the scene moments after the purported suicide attempt and found the man wreathing in pain with no help in sight.

“Let me call the relevant station as it appears that Mbare and Harare Central are avoiding the scene due to jurisdictional boundaries,” he said.

Inspector Simon Chazovachi, police spokesperson for Harare Province, said he was dispatching communication to the relevant police station for action to be taken.

Eye witnesses claimed to have called several ambulances without any joy. The police arrived over two hours later only to throw the man into the back of their truck.

The man had difficulties talking and was visibly in pain. Onlookers who arrived earlier said he had a small plastic bottle with a reddish substance in it.

A passerby who managed to speak to him said he mumbled something about delays in settling a debt he owes someone and felt it necessary to take his own life. Nhau/Indaba
