Hwinza releases emotional song for late mother

While for many people in Zimbabwe and around the world Christmases are a time to make merry – for Zim dancehall chanter, Hwinza, it is a time of sorrow.
For, on December 17, 2012, while Hwinza and family were preparing for Christmas, their joy soon turned into tears, as their matriarch, Hwinza’s mother, breathed her last.
Seven Christmases have since come and gone – but the pain of losing a parent just will not go away for one of the fastest rising Zim dancehall stars.
Born Simbarashe Magado, Hwinza has, in remembrance of his mother, released an emotional song aptly titled Rest In Peace Amai. He told Nhau that the track is not just a dedication to his mother but everyone else who has lost a dear parent or loved one.
“It was a hard time for me and family to realise she was no longer there. Since then I always reflect on the times when she was still alive,” said Hwinza.
“A lot of things changed after she passed on because she always made sure we were ok but after she was gone there was no one to fill that gap.”
Hwinza rose to fame with explicit content laden tracks such as Lula Lula, which attracted social media fame but had a lot of people questioning the real import of Zim dancehall.
He seems to be more mature now.
In the song he sings about how his mother went away without saying goodbye: “Makaenda musina kuti bye bye, kutaura kuno mhai mumbori pai, ndakusuwai mhani…”
He has received rave reviews for the new song which is accompanied by an equally emotional video.
The latest song from the Zim dancehall maestro – proves that talent can indeed be nurtured. Hwinza’s fan base seems to have grown in leaps and bounds within a very short space of time. Nhau/Indaba
