A Mt Darwin family whose members are part of the Johanne Marange Apostolic Church recently buried their 26-year-old daughter who died while giving birth at home.
According to Mashonaland Central police spokesperson, Inspector Milton Mundembe, Lucia Liver of Chakanetsa Village 8, Chief Nembire reportedly went into labour around 9am on February 28.
She informed her aunt Emma Liver (31) who then monitored her until around 3pm.
“Around 2.30pm she started showing signs of getting ready to deliver. She started bleeding until around 3pm when she died,” said Insp Mundembe.
Her corpse was ferried to Mt Darwin District Hospital where the District Medical Officer, Dr. George Mapiye carried out a post mortem. The process revealed that she died due to excessive bleeding caused by her raptured uterus.
Insp Mundembe has since appealed to members of the public to trust the government’s health delivery system and make use of its institutions across the country to save lives.
This follows several reports countrywide where members of the sect have lost life while giving birth due to their religious beliefs. Nhau/Indaba
