Mnangagwa Invites Chamisa To Anti-Sanctions Gala

Nelson Chamisa and his party the MDC Alliance, who are blamed by President Mnangagwa’s government for inviting sanctions on Zimbabwe, have been invited to an event organised to denounce the economic embargo.

This was announced by government spokesperson Nick Mangwana Tuesday, just days before the event takes place in Bulawayo.

“We have joined hands with other progressive stakeholders such as business, political parties and civil society to hold this year’s Anti-Sanctions e-Gala. We extend an invitation to the MDC-T, MDC-A and others to come and give a shout against sanctions,” said Mangwana.

October 25 has been set aside by SADC as the day to speak out against the punitive measures. SADC wants the sanctions removed as they believe they are slowing down economic growth in Southern Africa.

Zimbabweans fleeing poverty from home are also causing chaos in the region and creating unnecessary tensions with the country’s neighbours.

The Southern African country, under a joint ZANU PF and military rule since 1980, has been under sanctions, which have been gradually relaxed, since the early 2000s.

It remains to be seen, however, whether Chamisa, who attended Mnangagwa’s first inauguration soon after the November 2017 coup, will be at the anti-sanctions event. Nhau/Indaba
