Kadoma Celebrates International Women’s Day

By Lovemore Chazingwa
Individuals, corporates and organisations based in Kadoma this week joined the world in commemorating the annual International Women’s Day, which is held on March 8.

The day was set aside to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women. It is also a focal point in the women’s rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence against women.

Nhau spoke to Tafadzwa Mahachi, author of a piercing novel, Undaunted, who said: “I have always honoured women in all my debating and writing career. I wish for all women to know of their honour and our dependency on them from cradle to the grave.

“The symbol of womanhood is the very life itself. More to that, we’re birthed again and again on the laps of our mothers, sisters, wives – at the same time being natured, mentored and guided.”

Mahachi said women have every reason to walk with their heads held high, undaunted and fighting the demons that may try to steal their happiness, resolve, loyalty and nurturing spirit.

“It is this, their sacred nature, that I would like to salute on this, their day.”

Kadoma, a city never bereft of artwork, has seen its own children, the trailblazing soulful ensemble Young Bold and Talented, salute women through lyrical appreciation.

In the song, Munhukadzi, composed and performed by Antany Legend, the group sings of womanly virtue.

“Munhukadzi munhu anoda kutendwa zvikuru, kuvapo kwavo kwaita tisvike patiri, don’t abuse them but give them the love, musavarove, they beautify the place,” goes one verse.

The song was recorded at Skinner Studios.

International Women’s Day is a window opened for the world to mirror the vitality of mankind complemented by the very existence of women. Nhau/Indaba
