In exactly 10 days, the City of Kadoma will be transformed into a giant festival venue as African music greats Koffi Olomide, Jah Prayzah and the duo of Mafikizolo headline the African Explosion gig to be held at Odyssey Hotel.
A myriad of supporting acts are also on the line-up as Kadoma hosts Zimbabwe’s biggest musical concert for 2023.
The massive gig, slated for April 15, is likely to congest the City of Kadoma with fans from all over Zimbabwe eager to have a live experience with Koffi who last performed in the country in 2018.
Thousands of music lovers and showbiz followers from as far as Harare, Gweru, Chinhoyi, Bulawayo and even Zvishavane have been buying advance tickets and are set to converge in the gold-mining town for the historic gig.
Koffi last visited Zimbabwe in July 2021 for a video collaboration with urban grooves sensation Rockford ‘Roki’ Josphats and Tanzanian BET award winner, Rayvanny titled ‘Patati Patata’.
Amid the fun and pomp derived from the soukous rhythms of the legendary star, fans are in for another treat as South Africa’s multi-award-winning Afro-pop duo of Theo Kgosinkwe and Nhlanhla Nciza popularly known as Mafikizolo, will jet into the country to spice up the gig.
Award-winning contemporary artist Mukudzei Mukombe aka Jah Prayzah will also add lustre to the show which is expected to pull huge crowds for the epic act.
JP last performed at Odyssey last year at the Kadoma Music Festival alongside South African music sensation Makhadzi, a gig which left 250 or so decent rooms that the town of Kadoma has to offer fully booked.
Odyssey Entertainment, run by Prince Mharadze, has made Kadoma, which is a 140km drive from Harare, a favourite of many international artists on the local showbiz scene. Nhau/Indaba
