Logarusic Delighted, Warriors Coach Speaks On Stars

Warriors coach Zdravko Logarušić is delighted that some of his stars are picking fine form at the right time.

Zimbabwe face a high-flying Algeria in back-to-back Afcon 2022 qualifiers on November 12 and 16.

With odds favouring the Desert Foxes, who have gone for 20 matches without tasting defeat, Warriors fans can dare to dream after some of the key players shone at the weekend.

France-based striker Tino Kadewere scored his debut league goal for Lyon on Sunday in their 3-2 win over Starsbourg to bounce back to winning ways, having gone for five games without a win.

Captain Knowledge Musona, who is currently playing in midfield, scored in KAS Eupen’s 2-0 win over Royal Excel Mouscron in the Belgian top-flight.

Another Zimbabwe international Khama Billiat contributed two assists from the corner kick as Kaizer Chiefs came from behind to beat Maritzburg 2-1 in an MTN8 quarter final encounter, also on Sunday.

Terrence Dzvukamanja scored the only goal of the match as Orlando Pirates beat Cape Town City 1-0 in an MTN8 quarter-final on Saturday.

And this comes as a good news to Logarušić who is plotting against the African champions.

The Croat told Nhau Sport that he is delighted with the progress from some of his stars, especially ahead of a date against Manchester City’s Ryad Mahrez and company.

“All those things make me happy. I was watching and I follow most of these guys and the hope is they continue doing well going into the match against the best team in Africa at the moment.

“We will see the progress of the boys and see how it goes,” said Logarusic.

“It is something good to see players try to reach their best form and we hope this will be the same story come November. We also pray that the boys avoid injuries, and we need to monitor them going forward,” he added.

Macauley Bonne, another key player for the team, was in action as Queen Park Rangers played to a 0-0 draw against Bournemouth in the English Championship.

Marvelous Nakamba was an unused substitute as Aston Villa scored late to beat Leicester 1-0 in a Premier League encounter on Sunday.

Teenage Hadebe was also on the bench as Yeni Malatyaspor played to a 1-1 draw against Konyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig.

The Warriors are second of the standings with four points in Group H while Algeria top with six points.

Botswana have a point while Zambia are yet to pick a point after two rounds of matches – with two teams qualifying for the finals. Nhau/Indaba
