Madziwa FM Seeks Resource Bail Out

By Bindura Bureau

Madziwa FM, the only licensed community radio station in Mashonaland Central province has made calls for an urgent bail out to facilitate construction of its broadcasting room.

The station is expected to be on air by April next year broadcasting from Madziwa Township, but as the deadline draws closer, not much progress has been done.

Station Vice Chairperson, Jack Nyarugwe told Nhau/Indaba Thursday that they risked losing their license if they fail to complete their project and go live before the April 2023 deadline.

“We risk losing the license if we fail to be on air by April next year. We are therefore appealing to everyone, everywhere who can come to our rescue with either material or cash towards the renovation of our donated broadcasting room.”

Despite their current challenges, Nyarugwe was grateful to President Emmerson Mnangagwa for his zeal to free the airwaves and open them up to different players.

He also appealed to all stakeholders and political leaders in the province for urgent assistance.

“We are very grateful to President Mnangagwa and his Cabinet for opening up the airwaves and granting us permission to broadcast. We are however appealing to our local Member of Parliament and the Minister of State to help us mobilise resources towards the sprucing of our studio and training of staff,” he said.

“We definitely want to be on air latest by January next year. We cannot risk losing the license as opportunity knocks once at one’s door. This is an opportunity we cannot let go.

We also send our plea to Fredda Rebecca Gold Mine, Shamva and Bindura Nickel Mines,” Nyarugwe said.

He revealed that currently they were in urgent need of at least 7 800 bricks after receiving a donation of 2 200 bricks from Chief Mutumba.

“We are very thankful to Chief Mutumba and his subjects who have so far donated 2 200 bricks towards the renovation of our office. Anyone else elsewhere is very much welcome to support us either with material or cash.

“We need, windows, ceiling boards, doors and cement,” he added.
