Mapeza seeks Africa glory

FC Platinum might have been eliminated from the CAF Champions League but their business in Africa is not over yet.
The Zimbabwe champions were relegated to the CAF Confederation Cup – the second-tier competition of African club football – and are out to leave a mark.
Nhau Sport has gathered that coach Norman Mapeza is stopping at nothing to go far in the competition.
They have been drawn against Senegalese side Jaraaf in the play offs to qualify for the group stage with the two-legged affair set for next month.
A source at Mandava said Mapeza wants to sign at least five players to register for their African adventure. Utility player Blessing Moyo is reported to have already signed for the miners.
Another player headed for Mandava is CAPS United’s enterprising midfielder Innocent Mucheneka while efforts are being made to look for a direct replacement for Perfect Chikwende who switched to Tanzania’s Simba SC.
“Blessing Moyo has already signed with the club. He is part of the players identified by coach Mapeza,” revealed the source.
“Innocent Mucheneka is also on his way to Mandava. The coach wants to strengthen the squad with the idea of leaving a mark in Africa’s CAF Confederation Cup.
“He (Mapeza) wants to sign at least five more players in order to boost his squad and also to avoid fatigue in case the local league resumes.”
Mapeza recently told Nhau Sport that the focus now shifts to the Confederation Cup and his team is not there to add numbers.
Pure Platinum Play are set to face Jaraaf in February with hopes of qualifying for the group stage. Platinum were eliminated from the Champions League by Tanzanian side Simba SC under controversial circumstances. Nhau/Indaba
