Marry Mubaiwa’s hearing for the release of her passport set for tomorrow

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife Marry Mubaiwa’s hearing for an urgent application she made at the High Court seeking the release of her passport failed to kick-off Wednesday.
The matter was set before High Court judge Justice Benjamin Chikowero who consented to the matter being postponed to Thursday after the respondent represented by Sharon Fero had not yet completed filing its response to the application.

Mubaiwa’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa was in the know of the incomplete response after being told the position of the response by Fero.
Her passport was forfeited by the State as part of her bail conditions on several allegations that include attempted murder, money laundering, fraud and assault.
Mubaiwa is requiring her passport to enable her to urgently travel to South Africa for treatment due to the severe deterioration of her health after recommendations that she visit a specialist by a local medical doctor attending to her.
The doctor, Johan van Heerden, in a supporting affidavit told the High Court that there are no specialists in Zimbabwe who can treat her rare medical condition known as lymphoedema.
Lymphoedema is a long-term chronic condition that causes swelling in body’s tissues. It can affect any part of the body but usually develops on the arms and legs.
Mubaiwa was brought to Harare Magistrates Court last week in an ambulance after she had been issued with two warrants of arrest.
“I believe that Marry needs treatment of the wounds first for her to limit the pain and anxiety that goes with the injuries. For that to happen, the wound care must be handled by a specialist in lymphoedema management. There are no lymphoedema specialists in Zimbabwe,” Heerden said.
“Skin grafting can only be done if tissues of the wound beds are healthy and the opdama is under control. Failure to adequately prepare the wound beds will cause the skin to fall and the whole process to restart,” he added.
This week VP Chiwenga was reportedly airlifted to China for treatment. Nhau/Indaba
