Maselo dares to dream, creates own genre

The sound, which is made up of ethnic instrumentals, including drums, guitars and shakers among others, will likely throw listeners into disarray because of its busy, variated nature – it sounds like a song to appease an avenging spirit.

Music producer, Tapiwa Jera, better known as Maselo, has released a single titled Ndezvepasi featuring Dherira hit-maker Andy Muridzo.
In an interview with Nhau News Online, Maselo revealed that Ndezvepasi was created as a way of establishing a different sound originating from Maselo studios.

He said he had done so much in uplifting many artists in the country, who include Baba Harare, Jah Signal and uncle Epatan among others, and feels it is time for a fresh original sound in the country as most of the music being played has become monotonous.
“After making a couple of hits with artist from my record label I believe this is the time to also invent a fresh original sound. I want to create a new genre of music.

“Most of the music that is being played out there is the same, but we are at liberty to create new sounds,” said Maselo.
This writer had the opportunity listen to the new song and it was not immediately clear whether Maselo has struck gold or simply managed to string together jumbled up musical beats, making music enjoyment strenuous.
Ndezvepasi is indeed not your everyday song. It takes a good (or bad) musical ear to catch the rhythm of the song as it is a little confusing on one’s first take.

Of course, the vocal prowess of Muridzo aka Baba Keketso, cannot be ignored. He leaves a mark whenever he takes part in a production.
On the other hand, Maselo is also surprisingly good at vocal delivery. It is clear that he has learnt a thing or two in the years that he has been producing music for others.

The other plus for Maselo is that he really dug deep in order to come up with a new sound, unlike some artists that are now infamous for stealing other producers’ works.
