MDC HQ Crisis: Youths Holding 12 People Hostage

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has intervened and facilitated that MDC-T chairman Morgen Komichi get access to the Richard Morgan Tsvangirai House (formerly Harvest House) in Harare’s central business district, which was taken over last night by a team of youths from both MDC-T and MDC-A.

Not much detail is available at the moment but Komichi is believed to have held crisis talks with the youths. He did not say much after the meeting.

Meanwhile, reports are that the 60 youths that took over the building on Sunday evening are holding 12 people hostage.

According to ZimLive, Douglas Mwonzora, the MDC-T secretary-general is claiming that MDC-A youths occupying Harvest House are holding 12 people hostage: “They’re not in a position to make demands. They’re in a weak position legally and physically … They are Chamisa’s people. It’s a question of time, we will take our building.”

Mwonzora also claims that the youths occupying Harvest House “were organised and funded by G40 to take our building. They have taken it unlawfully and using violence. We will take back our building”.

The youths have refused to surrender or come out of the building so far.
