The Music Management Forum of Zimbabwe (MMFZ), recently endorsed by the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, and the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), will officially launch tomorrow December 16, 2020 in Harare.
Several musicians and arts organisations have endorsed the new body, whose launch takes place at Avon Restaurant in Avondale, Harare from 2pm to 5pm.
Formation of the association comes at a time when the music industry is crying out for high-level representation and professionalisation in order to be more oganised, and to contribute meaningfully to the country’s GDP.
In an interview, Russell Mavudzi, the secretary-general of the association, said their core mandate was “to offer members knowledge insights on music and event coordination”.
“Interacting with the music industry will be done through meeting all industry stakeholders by way of conferences and workshops.
“We’ll ensure that we provide music entertainment opportunities for the artists and improve relations between artists. We want to align local music management standards with international best practices.”
Jake Beaumont-Nesbit from the International Music Managers Forum (IMMF) is gracing the event. Nesbit is based in Luxembourg. MMFZ is a member of the IMMF.
Founding chairperson of the industrial union, Mr Gift Petro said: “We will be imparting the music managers with music management skills through holding seminars, conferences, music managers awards, music concerts and workshops.
“We will also ensure that as managers we have a medical aid fund in place, funeral policies and even legal aid to protect the Zimbabwean music industry.”
A general member of the association, Angela Tapera aka Lady Boss, a music manager based in the UK, said: “As a music manager based in the UK whilst my artist in Zimbabwe, the association has helped me create viable links within Zimbabwe and get reliable information on what’s on the ground. I hope we will help each other build a professional music industry and meet world class standards.” Nhau/Indaba
