Musician, Producer In War Of Words

By Gilbert Munetsi

A war of words has erupted between Zim dancehall crooner Tinashe Domingo (a.k.a T-Flexx) and producer Dallas Mazorodze (a.k.a DKT) over what the former described as gross ill-treatment.

The teenage musician is famous for his hit single “Mukanya” and recently did a collaboration with T-Gonzi, “Ndiyani,” whose video the duo is currently working on.

Taking to social media, T-Flexx said it was a sad development seeing producers taking advantage of the plight of those they record and manage.

He revealed that during the time he worked under the DKT record label, he was sometimes made to depart from the core business of music to perform menial work such as washing dishes to earn meals.

But the straw that was to break the camel’s back came when he notified Mazorodze of his mother’s serious health problems, to which DKT responded  by giving him RTGS$100 for transport, a gesture he has equated to mockery.

Domingo’s mother, Jekesai Kandawe succumbed to her illness a week ago and was buried in Chitungwiza. T-Flexx has since released a tribute single in her honour titled “Tichasangana.”

Narrating his ordeal, the musician attributed the mass exodus of a number of household names from the stable due to the ill-fitting welfare they received from “the boss.”

He named the likes of Jah Master, Chillmaster, Diroman Hunter and Flexx Tattle as some of those that had since jumped ship for the same reasons.

“Fellow Zimbabweans, all is not well in the Zimdancehall circles because of producers and promoters who are taking advantage and short-changing artistes.

“An example in point is myself, Tinashe Domingo, who has been part of the DKT family for some time.

“Just recently, my mother was seriously taken ill and when l asked for assistance from the producer to purchase drugs, all l received was rtgs100 for bus fare.

“This is despite the fact that l went out of my way to hold fort for Dallas during the period he was incarcerated. l remained the overseer of the studio and shop that the producer runs,” lamented the young musician.

Asked for comment, DKT brushed the allegations aside saying:

“Is there a restaurant at DKT (where there are plates and dishes to wash)? Is it a medical institution that cares for the sick?

“Anyway, does he have any proof that he (T-Flexx) is employed here? Ngavasiye mutoriro vaphanha ava.”

T-Flexx has called on seasoned producers such as Fantan, Levels, Tamuka, Oskid and Simplex to also consider musicians like him in their projects as they have the potential to reach greater heights. Nhau/Indaba
