Musician Speaks On Online Revenue

Swedish based musician and cultural ambassador Makandire Chezhira Chikutu a.k.a ManLuckerz has called on entertainment stakeholders to educate artistes on how they can benefit from online music platforms.

This comes at a time when many local musicians are distributing their music online with little or no revenue.

Enterprising individuals have gone on to distribute artistic material online without paying musicians any revenue, reaping all the rewards while musician’s sole benefits will be that of fame.

Lack of revenue flows especially during the Covid-19 pandemic when musicians are unable to stage live shows; their traditional sources of income, has left many artistes in abject poverty with some even opting to abandon their art seeking employment elsewhere.

“There should be a way that whenever people view or listen to music the artiste also earns something,” said ManLuckerz.

“It’s not easy to know how to generate income from online platforms as it is something still new to many, but we need the education to be availed that all musicians can also live off their art.”

Online music markets are generating billions in revenue for most international artistes, with the numbers increasing during the Covid-19  pandemic. Nhau/Indaba
