Fire has gutted down Chaminuka (Shamva) Rural District Council’s main administration offices located at Adam’s Plot in the town, Nhau/Indaba has established.
According to a security guard who was manning the premises, the fire broke out early this morning at around 12am and he abruptly notified the police and other stakeholders.
The council which has no fire tender experienced a huge loss after several records were burnt to ashes as mobilised fire tenders from Harare Municipality and Freda Rebecca Gold Mine only arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire at around 2am.
Council chief executive officer Jemitias Mandinyenya described the incident as a loss and drawback to the local authority and the community at large.
He said investigations to determine the cause of the fire were underway but the guard suspected an electrical fault.
“Almost everything that was in the administration block was burnt to ashes. We don’t have a fire tender. That is why it took a long time to extinguish. This is a loss to the community and a big drawback to the council. The guard is suspecting an electrical fault,” he said.
“The fire has only spared the registry and reception offices as well as the engineering workshop.”
Last year Shamva district hospital pharmacy went up in flames resulting in the loss of several drugs and property and it took Fredda Rebecca Gold Mine to douse the blaze.
