Over 250 exhibitors are set to throng Bulawayo’s Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre (ZITF grounds) for this year’s Sanganai/Hlanganani–World Tourism Expo.

Set for October 13-15, 2022; the expo will be conducted physically after a two-year hiatus induced by the Covid-19 restrictions.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) Chief Executive Ms. Winnie Muchanyuka announced the developments Tuesday in Bulawayo where she expressed satisfaction with the pace at which the tourism sector is recovering.

“We are grateful that the industry is showing signs of recovery as shown by the increase in arrivals from international travel in the first half of 2022.”

“The Domestic market also continues to show positive growth since the launch of the ZIMBHO Campaign.

“The return of physical meetings and events has not only been celebrated by the tourism industry but by all sectors. This has reignited the growth of the MICE sector and we have witnessed the positive impact of this locally as well,” she said.

Muchanyuka said the ZTA was optimistic to reach their target of 250 exhibitors.

So far, over 150 exhibitors have registered to participate including some from Rwanda, South Africa, Zambia, Botswana and Malawi.

She also announced that over 100 buyers have confirmed their participation and the authority has scheduled tours to Zimbabwe’s key destinations for them.

“Buyers have been drawn from key source markets which include Germany, United Kingdom, America, South Africa, Botswana, Australia, India and many others.” she said.

“Pre and post tours have been put in place which will see buyers visiting most key destinations which include Matobos, Hwange, Victoria Falls, Mana Pools, Kariba, Eastern Highlands, Masvingo, Gonarezhou and many others,” she said.

Meanwhile, winners of the Provincial Tourism Innovation Challenge were announced prior to the press conference.

This programme is part of the ZTA’s Tourism Innovative Hub aimed at supporting youths and exposing their ideas to the global community.

Daniel Nkuzuwalela emerged as the winner of the Bulawayo Province Tourism Innovation Challenge prize with his project Flexie which seeks to democratise travel and enhance tourism in Bulawayo and Zimbabwe at large through virtual reality.
