Prepaid Water Meters For Glendale Households

By Bindura Bureau
The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) yesterday (Thursday) started installing prepaid water meters in Glendale, Nhau/Indaba reports.

A total of 1 900 prepaid water meters are expected to be installed by the end of this month.

The council’s Corporate Communications and Marketing Manager, Majory Munyonga, told Nhau/Indaba that their ultimate goal is to ensure that all their clients in the town are connected to the prepaid water metering system in line with emerging water management trends.

“Prepaid water meters are a modern and emerging trend in water resources management, which affords clients more control of their water bills and water consumption patterns. By paying for their water before consumption, clients are able to control their budgets and are saved from accruing debts,” said Munyonga.

It is also envisaged that prepaid water meters will help improve service delivery as resources that are currently being used for purposes such as meter readings will now be deployed towards other more deserving areas such as water production and breakdown repairs.

As at February 28, 2023, clients in Glendale owed ZINWA a total of $93,567,109.77.

In Mashonaland Central Province, Mvurwi is one of the two towns where ZINWA piloted the concept of prepaid water meters. Nhau/Indaba
