Rajput Out Of Pakistan Tour

Zimbabwe Cricket head coach Lalchand Rajput will miss the Pakistan tour after his side arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday without him.

The Embassy of India in Harare wrote to Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) asking that Rajput, who is an Indian national, be exempted from visiting Pakistan for the limited-overs tour in accordance with the travel guidelines stipulated by the Government of India for its citizens.

The Embassy of Pakistan in Harare had issued a visa to Rajput.

With Rajput unavailable for the tour, ZC has appointed Zimbabwe bowling coach Douglas Hondo to take charge of the team for the three one-day international matches and as many Twenty20 international games against Pakistan.

Rajput, who represented the Indian national team in six international games (four ODIs and two Tests) in the mid-1980s was roped in as the head coach of the Zimbabwe cricket team earlier in August 2018.

Rajput was appointed as the head coach of the Zimbabwe cricket team after the team failed to qualify for the 2019 ICC World Cup hosted by England and Wales.

On Tuesday, the official Twitter handle of Zimbabwe cricket lifted the lid on Rajput’s absence from the Pakistan tour and took to Twitter saying:

“ZimCricketv head coach @Lalchandrajput7 will miss the @TheRealPCB tour after the Embassy of India in Harare wrote to @ZimCricketv asking that he be exempted from visiting Pakistan. The Embassy of Pakistan in Harare had issued a visa to Rajput.”

On upcoming series between Zimbabwe and Pakistan, the visitors are scheduled to play three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20Is against Pakistan in their own backyard.

Zimbabwe will start their tour by playing the ODI series which will be a part of the ICC World Cup Super League from October 30 in Rawalpindi.

The T20I series between the two teams will commence from November in Lahore. Nhau/Indaba
