Rimbi Tours Loses Harare-Nyamapanda Route As Govt Uplifts Operating Suspension

Government has with immediate effect restored the operating licence for Rimbi Tours Private Limited, after suspending the bus company from operating following a fatal accident last month.

The accident claimed one life on the spot at the 160km peg along the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway and injured several last month after his driver was captured on video racing a Zebra Kiss bus along the route.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Felix Mhona announced the latest development Friday.

This follows “the submission of comprehensive measures that have been put in place by the Operator to avert such incidents in future”, he said in a statement.

“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development wishes to advise the public that it has lifted the suspension of the Operator’s Licence for all Rimbi Travel and Tours Pvt Ltd omnibuses, with immediate effect.”

Mhona further stated that they saw it prudent to lift the suspension following efforts made to resolve the Harare-Nyamapanda route conflict between Rimbi Tours and Tashllyt Investments Pvt Ltd trading as Zebra Kiss.

He said Rimbi Tour submitted a letter of consent to withdraw from the route for an alternative one.

“The Ministry has therefore seen it in the best of interest of all concerned stakeholders to cancel all Route Permits for Rimbi Travel and Tours Pvt Ltd on the Harare to Nyamapanda route. The Operator has consented to this arrangement and will be allowed to service other routes across the country,” Mhona said.

This week Rimbi Tours director Decent Rimbi reneged from pursuing an earlier court application challenging government’s suspension of his buses from operating before issuing an apology to President Mnangagwa and his government.

“We realised that what I had done (filing a court application against the Government) was wrong and I have withdrawn the application.”

“I am sorry for my actions, I am sorry to the President, Minister Mhona and to all the people of Zimbabwe. I was ill informed, but later on came to realise that it was a bad decision. I am pleading for leniency,” he said. Nhau/Indaba
