Roy Jones Jr believes Mike Tyson could ’cause a problem’ for current heavyweights

Roy Jones Jr claims Mike Tyson’s extraordinary punching power could still trouble the current heavyweight boxers.

The 51-year-old Jones and Tyson, 54, are coming out of retirement for an eight-round exhibition fight in California on November 29 (NZT).

Jones, a four-divisional world champion, has admitted he may have taken on more than he can handle by entering the ring with Tyson, and his current theory goes some way to explaining that.

In comparing Tyson to the current elite of the glamour division, Jones said Tyson still has “tremendous punching power … one thing most of them don’t have, except Deontay Wilder”.

“Anytime you got tremendous punching power like Mike got, he got a chance, because he can, in most of the fights, win under three rounds,” Jones told Fight Hype.

“So it’s like most of these guys, all he gotta do is get to their chin and he got them.

“I believe if he got himself in shape and took care of himself for like a six-month period, he definitely could cause a problem in the heavyweight division.”
