Vulnerable children sheltered at Ponesai Vanhu Children’s Home located in Shamva’s remote areas recently received a timely boost of necessary supplies ahead of Christmas celebrations, Nhau/Indaba has learnt.

The home is a project of Development Aid from People to People in Zimbabwe and is responsible for grooming and nurturing orphans from infancy to 18 years of age.

Currently it hosts 51 orphans from across the country and most of them are siblings.

Instatoll Pvt Ltd headquartered in South Africa donated an assortment of groceries and sanitary wear to the home so that orphans enjoy the Christmas holiday “like any other child out there” according to its Chief Operations Officer George Mufuka.

Instatoll is a transport and logistics company also operating in Zimbabwe and is responsible for nine tollgates across the country’s highways mainly along the Filabusi – Harare – Mutare roads.

Mufuka said they had adopted the children’s home and are willing to support it through any other means if the home needed more help.

“They also need to go for trips, we will assist in any way we can, and maybe we can provide you with fuel,” he said.

Speaking and receiving the goods on behalf of the institute, DAPP country director Luckson Soda said they were very thankful to Instatoll for the great intervention.

“Otherwise, it was just going to be like any other day for them here. We are in the middle of a resource crisis. They came at the right time when we really needed help, otherwise the atmosphere would be different here on that day, now that they have something to eat,” he said.

“They also need love and care; people everywhere are welcomed to assist these children in any way this Christmas time and thereafter,” said Soda.

Occupants at the home are also provided with vocational training after completion of secondary education at its Technical College which is accredited by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development as well as HEXCO.

Soda said the home was established in 1993 as part of efforts to compliment government’s quest to promote child rights and offering solutions for the vulnerable children in the society. Nhau/Indaba
