Songbird Slams Bias

Songbird Ammi Jamanda has challenged music promoters to consider the female quota when organising festivals.

The energetic Afro jazz artist reckons females pursuing secular music were being side-lined by festival organisers.

She opened up following her late inclusion in the Bindura Music Festival to be held at Trojan Mine Stadium on Saturday.

Jah Prayzah, Baba Harare, Freeman, Mambo Dhuterere, Chillspot Family, Black Site, Ras Child and Junior Stan are set to grace the event.

After raising her complaints on social media, the event organisers roped in the songbird.

“I have noted that some promoters have been sidelining female artists no matter how good we are for their events.

“As such, I am lobbying that the women’s quota, which is advocated for in other disciplines, be considered by music promoters.

“I am glad that I finally made it onto the line-up taking part in the Bindura Music Festival this weekend and I promise my best show ever,” she said.

“As female artists, we also need the support of the promoters to ensure that we also contribute meaningfully to the development of the sector.

“We are capable and ready to play our part as female artists.

“I wish to represent my peers in style this Saturday,” said Jamanda.

Meanwhile, festival coordinator, Jack Radics, said all was now in place.

“We have done all the groundwork expected of us.

“All the artists on the line up, led by Jah Prayzah and Baba Harare, are ready for the event.

“The event is set to start at 2pm with general tickets pegged at US$10 and VIP tickets going for US$20,” said Radics.

“The show is a bit special to Freeman who will be performing in his hometown.

“Freeman has been evolving over the years and it’s nice to see him meet his kith and kin,” he said. H Metro
