Supreme Court Acquits MDC Duo

The Supreme Court has acquitted Movement for Democratic Change activists Last Maengahama and Tungamirai Madzorera on murder charges, Nhau has learnt.

The duo had been incarcerated at Chikurubi Maximum prison for the past eight years after being convicted of murdering police Inspector Petros Mutedza in 2011.

This was after Insp Mutedza was heavily assaulted by unknown assailants during a crowd dispersion exercise by the police in Glen View.

They were sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted through the doctrine of common purpose.

Maengahama served jail time despite an alibi where video footage showed that he was in a church service when the alleged offence was committed. Nhau/Indaba
