Suspected Cholera Cases Rise To 159

Zimbabwe recorded six new suspected cholera cases as of Sunday, bringing the total number of cases to 159, statistics from the Ministry of Health and Child Care show.

Of the six, four were confirmed through cumulative culture tests.

They were confirmed in Mbire (3) and Chimanimani (1), bringing the number of confirmed cases countrywide to 17.

So far one person has died from the disease with 128 recoveries.As of Saturday, 12 people were reported hospitalised on suspicion of cholera.

Beitbridge District Hospital (2) in Matabeleland South Province, Bikita District (1) Masvingo Province, Thorngrove hospital (1) Bulawayo, Chinengundu Clinic (2) Chegutu District Mashonaland West Province, (5) Chimanimani District Manicaland Province and Chidodo Clinic (1) Mashonaland Central Province.

Since the first Cholera outbreak was identified in Chegutu on February 12 this year, the Health ministry has identified 17 hotspots in the country as follows:

Buhera, Chegutu, Chikomba, Chimanimani, Chipinge, Chitungwiza, Chiredzi, Harare, Gokwe North, Marondera, Mazowe, Shamva, Mutare, Mwenezi, Seke and Wedza. Nhau/Indaba
