Tuku’s Todii turned into Amapiano hit

Nhau Correspondent

On January 23, 2019, Zimbabwe lost a legend.
Arguably the greatest Zimbabwean musician to ever grace the stage, microphone in hand.
Oliver Mtukudzi was not just a darling to local music fans, his popularity extended beyond international boundaries. Even from his grave, Tuku is still causing waves in the music industry with his music being sampled by various artistes from around the globe.
Last year, one of his hits, Todii, ended up on many international DJ playlists after it was remixed by one of South Africa’s top Amapiano acts, DJ Obza.
The Amapiano version was an instant hit, proving that Tuku’s music is timeless and cannot be limited to any specific generation or genre.
During his time, he managed to collaborate with artistes from various genres and always nailed it. Dancehall, hip-hop, mbira, gospel, Afro-jazz – you name it – Nzou could do it all.
RIP Samanyanga. Nhau/Indaba
