US$2.5m Heist: Police Recover US$456 626


Detectives from CID Homicide have made a breakthrough, recovering a substantial amount of cash stolen in the Gwebi bridge US$2.5 million heist last week.

They also recovered vehicles believed to be proceeds of the same alleged crime.

So far police have arrested 11 suspects, three of whom were the guards assigned to deliver the cash around the country and they are already in custody.

From Saturday until yesterday, investigations led detectives to arrest eight more suspects who helped them to recover the cash and properties.

A total of US$456 626 was recovered and cars they allegedly had bought including one used during the commission of the offence. They are currently appearing at Harare Magistrates Court before magistrate Judith Taruvinga.
