The Town Clerk for the City of Victoria Falls Ronnie Dube has been suspended with immediate effect, Indaba has heard.
According to a press statement released by the resort city’s Mayor, Councillor Somvelo Dlamini, he is facing several allegations bordering around abuse of office, corruption, and incompetence.
“Some of these allegations are being investigated by state machinery. Given the predicament that Mr Dube is the accounting officer, it will be very difficult to properly carry out the investigation with him at the helm,” he said.
He said the decision to suspend him was not arrived at easily he will go a without salary or benefits.
“Intense analysis of the facts and the situation on the ground left me with no option but to suspend. Council will also be carrying out its investigations.”
The suspension is in terms of section 139 of the Urban Council’s Act which empowers the mayor to suspend. Meanwhile, the Cllr Dlamini called upon stakeholders, investors, and residents to remain calm as a mechanism to continue service delivery has been put in place. Nhau/Indaba
