Winky D, Jah Prayzah: Clash with a twist

Nhau Correspondent

Had it not been for Covid-19 – tonight’s show featuring two of Zimbabwe top performers, Jah Prayzah and Winky D, would be the talk of town, the year ender.
On the flipside – it probably wouldn’t be happening.
Firstly, the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) would be deemed too small to host the two giants. And at this time of the year, venues are hard to come by that can accommodate these two superstars.
Secondly, the two artists’ big egos would likely stand in the way of the show – each of them has packed the HICC to the rafters on their own – more than once.
One of them would probably have booked the venue first and its that artist that thousands would be going to watch tonight.
But Covid-19 happened – and the lockdown measures in place require that only 100 fans be allowed into the venue.
Everyone else has to watch online, and in this case, via Gateway Stream Music virtual live streaming Pay Per View (PPV) platform.
The only way to get enough PPV numbers online is to combine forces – which is what Kayse Connect have managed to do.
It remains to be seen if their choice of day and calculation will bring them success.

THE DETAILS

Winky D and Jah Prayzah’s show will run for two hours, from 6pm – 8pm.
It’s a tried and tested formula, Janet Manyowa already set the pace through her PPV last weekend. Manyowa’s event was available exclusively via livestream on the Gateway Stream Music App.
Fans enjoyed a seamless and stable output with high resolution video and sound quality.
So, tonight, those that want to be part of the event have to purchase tickets by logging on to the Gateway Stream Music website or download the App, which is available on Google Play Store for Android devices and the Apple App Store for IOS devices.
Music fans will pay just US$2 or equivalent in Zimbabwe dollars and stream the concert from any part of the world.
According to Ishe Makambira, Gateway Stream Music Project Manager, the application also enables artistes and fans to socialise.
Thus, tonight a few fans will get a chance to call in to request a song from either Winky D or Jah Prayzah.
“The Gateway Stream Music Web and Mobile Application is a music platform that is built for both musicians and users. Musicians are able to upload their music, live stream their shows using the Pay Per View platform in the Gateway Stream Music App, set pricing, manage inventory, socialise with their fans and receive revenue for all purchases through a revolutionary wallet function located in the App.
“A unique feature of the application is the socialisation capability where artistes can interact with their fans and share content in the same way as they would on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp.
“The Gateway Stream Music App will give artistes access to consumers and ensure that they can earn revenue for their trade, reducing the risk of losing earnings through piracy,” he said.

WHAT IS PAY PER VIEW

PPV is a type of pay television or webcast service by which a viewer can purchase events to view via private telecast.
It enables fans to buy tickets and attend shows online from the comfort of their home or any location with access to internet connectivity through live streaming.
PPV is priced at a fraction of the cost of the normal physical shows.
“Pay Per View is a fairly new concept in Zimbabwe which arrived on our doorsteps due to the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions. It enables the artists to get back to work as currently they cannot host live shows where fans physically attend” said Makambira.
He said the concept of the Gateway Stream Music web and mobile application is premised on the need to empower artists.
“Our App gives artists the opportunity to earn an income from live streaming their shows using the Pay Per View platform which is within the App. Unlike other free live streaming where they do not earn any money from the live performance. For YouTube one has to reach 1 million views to earn a pay check! Gateway Stream Music ensures artists get paid for any airplay and receive their money immediately.
“This particular show features two high profile artists that have raised the Zim flag high and continue to be the most sought after artists in Zimbabwe. To make the concert more interesting almost everyone can now watch and also request a song from the two artists.” Nhau/Indaba
