Zakaria Follows In Uncle’s Footsteps With New Album

Khiama Boys protégée and long distance truck driver Washington Zakaria will tomorrow follow in his uncle Nicholas Zacharia’s footsteps when he unleashes his second album titled “Magetsi Anotevera Tambo”.

The six track album is a Trutone Studios production and was produced and engineered by the seasoned Jabulani Ndlovu, who is not new in sungura circles.

Speaking to The Herald, Washington, who fronts the Junior Kings, said he was happy to give his fans yet another musical project after recording some good success with his debut album last year.

“I am elated to give my fans an early Christmas present courtesy of this new six track album,” he said. “The project has a message for everyone and I am leaving it to my fans to judge the progress. We really gave our best and I am grateful to my production team.”

Washington, who made headlines last year after fans mistook him as the new Khiama Boys Band leader, said he was inspired by his uncle and sungura legend Nicholas Zakaria, who leads Khiama Boys.

“The news about me taking over Khiama Boys was just because of some miscommunication that happened on social media,” he said.

“The Senior Lecturer (Nicholas Zakaria) is my uncle and inspiration. He is very much in the game and this album is actually dedicated to him in celebration of his milestones and achievements.”

The new album has got potential hits in all the six tracks namely ‘‘Chiringaringa’’, ‘‘Yambiro’’, ‘‘Kupa kwaShe’’, ‘‘Akalongosi’’, ‘‘Zvinorwadza Hurudza’’ and ‘‘Zvipo’’.

“‘Chiringaringa’ is an advice to men so that they should stick to one partner,” said Washington. “There are so many beautiful ladies out there, if you keep chasing them you are most likely to lose everything.

“The song ‘Yambiro’ goes out to both men and women. Before a man denies responsibility after impregnating someone, he must think about the future. Every child is a blessing and it’s only good that we should all man up.

“‘Kupa kwaShe’ is about gratitude and thanking God for his blessings so that he gives us more, while ‘Akalongosi’ is advice being given to a sister to respect her husband. There is no need to pack your bags after every quarrel, especially with the high incidences of divorce.

“The song ‘Zvinorwadza Hurudza’ is about making peace with what life gives us because not everything goes our way. On ‘Zvipo’ we are simply celebrating the gifts of life as availed by the creator.”

Washington’s first album was titled ‘‘Kuzama Zvose’’ and it is hoped he attains better success with the new offering.

From his management, Reuben Yuda said a video to one of the songs on the album will be out before the end of this year, followed by two others early next year.

“We want to release a video to one of the songs on the new album before we unleash two more next year,” he said. “We believe consistency counts and we want to make sure our fans have something to smile about before the year ends.” Herald
