ZERA Hikes Fuel Prices As Zim Dollar Crumbles

By Daphne Nyakanyanga
Fuel prices continue to rise in the country after the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) hiked the prices of diesel and blend with immediate effect.

The new prices are contained in a statement released by the energy regulator Tuesday.

Diesel and blend prices rose from US$1.74 to US$1.76 and US$1.68 to US$1.73 respectively.

In local currency, the prices have been pegged at ZWL550.95 per litre for Diesel 50 while Blend-E15 now sells at ZWL539.56 per litre.

“The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio is now at E15,” Zera said.

Zera’s fuel increase comes at a time the country’s economic pandemic continues to bite with prices of basic commodities such as bread going beyond the reach of many.

Causes have been attributed to Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine War which have destabilised economies worldwide.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe dollar continued to slide against the United States dollar after today’s Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe foreign currency exchange auction closed at US$1: ZWL325.33. Nhau/Indaba
