ZLHR Hails Withdrawal Of Military Personnel From NPA
The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has hailed Government’s latest move of recalling all military service personnel seconded to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

A February 2019 Supreme Court order set February 20 2021 as the deadline by which the NPA should have addressed its manpower shortage problem and gotten rid of police and army personnel within its structures.

ZLHR executive director Roselyn Hanzi said their presence was a complete violation of the Constitution and National Prosecuting Authority Act.

“This was long overdue. Continued presence of police and military (plus other security services) prosecutors was a blatant violation of the Constitution and National Prosecuting Authority Act. NPA had to be taken to court to force compliance with the Constitution,” she said.

Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi said the NPA was grateful for the services they were offered in the prosecutorial department.

“The PG’s Office is in full compliance with the court ruling. It has been so for months now,” said Mr Hodzi.

“The PG wishes to express his deep gratitude and appreciation to all the seconded staff for their service to the NPA,” Hodzi said. Nhau/Indaba
