ZUJ Condemns Harassment Of Journalists

 By Denzel Nemhara

The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists has condemned the continued harassment of media practitioners by politicians and the general public who see themselves as “immune to the rule of law”.

This follows the harassment of The Herald’s Mashonaland Central Bureau chief Fungai Lupande by an aide escorting former first lady, Grace Mugabe’s son Russell Goreraza.

Lupande was taking pictures with her cell phone as Goreraza walked out of Bindura Magistrates court yesterday where he faced Theft allegations.

She got the shock of her life after Goreraza’s alleged aide grabbed her cellphone at the courts only to get it back after Goreraza’s legal team intervened.

Speaking to Nhau, Thursday, ZUJ Mashonaland Central chapter chairperson Marsha Sengwe called on government and the responsible authorities to bring to book such human rights abusers in the country.

“Such crass human rights abusers must not be given room in this Second Republic. They are denting efforts by the new dispensation in offering media practitioners a free operating ground.

Police must deal with that bravo, failure to do so they would have failed us all,” said Sengwe. Nhau/Indaba
