At the twilight of his career, Zimbabwean defender Victor Kamhuka is finally getting recognition.

Kamhuka was named in the just-ended Myanmar National League team of the season after a standout campaign for Ayeyawady United.

The former Dynamos defender was not only named in the football association’s team, but in the fans’ team of the season as well.

The recognition came after the big defender helped his team finish third in a season that saw them winning a domestic cup and went for 15 games without defeat.

He also made it into the team of week on numerous occasions and won a number of man-of-the-match awards.

The former Black Leopards defender, who once had a stint in India, was also named among the best foreign-based 11 players in the Asian country.

And speaking on the recognition, Kamhuka said his hard work is finally paying off.

“I have been working hard over the years and I would say it’s now paying off,” he said.

“I have been named in the league team of the season and also the fans picked me as one of their best 11 in a selection that is done online,” added Kamhuka.

Kamhuka’s top performance was also noticed by Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic who initially named him in the Warriors squad that travelled to Malawi for the international friendly recently.

He said his initial inclusion into team, though he failed to make it due to travel restrictions, is a testimony of his hard work.

He saluted Logarusic and his technical team for recognising him.

“I couldn’t make it for the Malawi friendly due to travel restrictions but I am grateful to make it into the team that was scheduled to play Malawi. I grateful to coach Loga for the effort to give me the chance,” he said. Nhau/Indaba
