Alexio Kawara turns to Christ, now a gospel artist

By Tawanda Matanhire
Shaina hit-maker Alexio Kawara has discarded his old songs and is considering not playing in nightclubs and bars as he seeks to chart a new path as a born-again Christian, Nhau has learnt.

Further, Kawara will now exclusively sing gospel songs and is in the studio working on a new single which his team hopes will show his true calling and new musical direction.

In an exclusive interview with Nhau/Indaba, the artist revealed that he is now a member of Westgate Harvesters Ministry after what he terms important transformation of his life.

But what inspired this transformation?
“I realised that I have been living a lie. I honestly thought I was a Christian but did not know what being a Christian is. It’s more than just claiming to be one,” said the soft-spoken singer.

He further explained what it meant for him to be born again and how he reached that turning point in his life.

“Being born again means to die to self and giving way to God’s Spirit to work in me and make me into what I was brought into this world for.
“It is seen in how one lives in line with what the word of God says. Let’s just say God pulled me out in the way he saw fit to bring me to the light,” he said.

The award-winning star said his music has changed because he now only sings to exalt the name of the Lord and hoped his fans would still appreciate him.

“I am not sure what effect this will have on my fans, but I pray that they will still appreciate the message in my music as much as they did in my old music. I have always been for a positive message in my writing, but I believe this is way better. This is life.”

The Chihwandehwande singer’s manager Auxilia Mazhambe said Kawara chose to follow the Christian path and thus his music will follow suit.
“Fans should expect a whole new Alexio singing gospel music though he is keeping his original sound,” she said.

He is currently working on a gospel single and the release date is yet to be announced.
“He most probably will name the song, Spirit Leads,” she said.

Kawara started off as an urban grooves artist around the year 2000. His song Amai immediately topped the charts.

He launched his musical career with a bang when he released his debut album “Usazondisiye” which carried the song Ndinomhanya in 2003. The album enjoyed heavy rotation on local radio stations.

He went on to release several successful singles before the urban grooves genre began to fade. Later Kawara emerged as an Afro-fusion artist and that sound kept him going since around 2008.

This was yet another shift in his career which made his brand strong and more appealing because of the use of live instruments.
His song “Unombozviitirei” has currently gained traction getting fair airplay accompanied with a unique appealing video. Nhau/Indaba
