Govt Warns Bar, Nightclub Owners

Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Kazembe Kazembe has reiterated Government’s tough stance on bars and nightclubs that are violating Covid-19 regulations.

Answering questions during 42nd post-Cabinet briefing Kazembe said Government will act on operators no matter their links to Government.

“Stern measures are being taken on enforcement of laws,” he said, adding, “No one is above the low, so we will arrest anyone who violates the Covid-19 measure no matter who they are.”

Police recently increased patrols and raids on defiant bars leading to arrests of multitudes of revelers and scores of club and bar owners.

Speaking during the same briefing Minister of Environment, Climate Change, Tourism and Hospitality Mangaliso Ndlovu said curfew measures are still in place.

“Cabinet reiterates that the lockdown and curfew measures previously announced are still subsisting. It should be noted that public bars, night clubs, beerhalls, casinos, betting shops and theatres are still not permitted to operate.

“The nation is informed that gatherings are still limited … while authorised events such as weddings and church congregations are limited to fifty (50) and one hundred (100) persons, respectively. The enforcement of lockdown measures will be intensified henceforth.” Nhau/Indaba
