Another Army General Dies

Major General (Retd) Sydney Bhebe has died at the age of 61.

His death announced by Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Alphios Makotore Tuesday, comes a day after the burial of the late National hero Major-General (Retired) Sikhulile Simpson Nyathi (61) who died last Sunday at the Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks Referral Hospital.

“The Commander Zimbabwe National Army (ZNZ), Lieutenant General David Sigauke regrets to announce the untimely passing on of Major General (Retd) Sydney Bhebe. Major General Bhebe died on Monday evening, 13 June 2022 at the Avenues Clinic in Harare,” reads a news flash from the ZNA.

Major General (Retd) joined the Liberation struggle under the Zimbabwe African People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) after crossing the border into Zambia via Botswana in April 1977. After Independence, he was attested into the ZNA on April 1, 1981 and rose through the ranks to Major General in 2021 when he retired from the army.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Bhebe and three children. Mourners are gathered at number 15 Cranborne West Married Quarters, Hatfield in Harare. Nhau/Indaba
