Artists should embrace online platforms: Baba Harare

By Tawanda Matanhire

Amid challenges faced by musicians as a result of Covid-19 – Baba Harare, real name Braveman Chizvino, has urged artists to take online platforms seriously as it is the only way to get their content to the people.
Artists across the country have been adversely affected by the current Covid-19 lockdown restrictions. The lockdown, meant to curb the spread of the coronavirus, has had a negative impact on artists’ livelihoods with many now openly calling for Government to intervene.
However, The Reason Why hit-maker told Nhau that he is taking this “opportunity” presented by the lockdown to pen his next album.
“We have to obey the lockdown restrictions, so I’m going to be home but will take this time to write songs for my next album,” said Baba Harare.
Since the first Covid-19 lockdown restrictions last year, a number of artists were left with no source of income as they solely depended on live shows to earn a living.
However, the coming in of online music promoters introduced a new era in the country’s music industry as this was embraced as a new revenue stream by most artists.
Pay per view has also made inroads, coming in as a blessing as artists can hold shows without putting their lives or their audience at risk of the virus while earning a living.
The Jiti artist said artists have no other choice but to embrace online platforms so as to earn something for their hard work.
“The lockdown came when no one was prepared but to counter that, artists should take online shows seriously because if well-managed artists can earn a meaningful living while they are in their homes,” he said. Nhau/Indaba
