Baba Harare, Jah Master collabo a miss

Marrying two different genres and music formulas requires an above average skill, otherwise it could turn out to be a recipe for disaster.
Baba Harare and Jah Master have already served us that dish.
Their new project is underwhelming.
While other artists are hitting jackpots with their collaborations, apparently duets are not for everyone.
When Jiti star Baba Harare and Jah Master released a single “Love ye Germany” – many rushed to stream it. But the release seems to have fallen on the rocks.
Baba Harare is celebrated for, The Reason Why, a song that stole the limelight after its release in 2018 while Jah Master recently became an overnight sensation with, Hello Mwari.
But when these two decided to come together on their latest release, Love ye German, their music lost its lustre, they simply failed to gel.
To begin with, the lyrical content is not top-notch, especially the chorus where they speak of Love from Germany. It is confusing at best and meaningless at worst.
While the beat is ok, the Guzuzu star’s vocals were dull on the track, overpowered by Jah Master’s sharp voice. With Jah Master doing well at the moment with his previous work, adding Love ye Germany to the catalogue really spoilt his momentum.
Compared to Jah Master’s Unonzani featuring Anita Jackson, the Baba Harare/Jah Master collabo is a 10 steps backwards offering.
However, while it lacks the oomph, we managed to pick some positives, particularly the visuals.
Yes, it is low budget filming but the cinematographer tried to beautify a frog with lots of make-up. Having been in the game a long time, Naxo played around with the lenses until he brought out the best he could.
Had the song been just above average – no doubt it would have been a fair music video.
Perhaps this fall could teach the two artists a thing or two and hopefully they learn from their mistakes.
There are other artists that have done incredibly well. For instance, Freeman recently released a mixtape featuring a different artist on every song.
A number of songs on the mixtape have received a thumbs up – a good example of a successful project.
Talk of Poptain and Allanah’s anthemic “Fadza Mutengi” or Ex Q and Tocky Vibes’ Wakatemba, which has spilled over into other countries on the African continent – and it becomes clear that there are winners out there.
For Baba Harare and Jah Master, they simply need to revisit the basic of collaborations. Nhau/Indaba
