Pasuwa unsettles local PSL coaches

By Ephraim Shoko

Kalisto Pasuwa could unsettle a number of local coaches if he does not extend his deal at Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets.
Although the former Warriors coach is expected to stay in Malawi, Nhau can reveal no extension agreement has been signed.
This is at the back of a Covid-19 crisis which has seen a number of clubs in Southern Africa being hit hard financially.
That there has not been much football action in the region, except for South Africa, has made it difficult for clubs to quickly commit to new terms with coaches and players.
This week, Pasuwa’s handlers confirmed the coach is out of contract in December.
“Yes, his contract is coming to an end, but nothing much to talk about yet,” said his agent Gibson Mahachi.
The developments also come at a time when another coach under the same agent, Norman Mapeza, recently rejoined FC Platinum to replace Dutchman Pieter De Jongh.
Mapeza’s arrival increases FC Platinum’s strength in the domestic league.
And for those teams eager to dislodge the platinum miners, who have won three consecutive league titles, Pasuwa could be the best bet.
Indications on the ground are that teams likely to keep tabs on Pasuwa in the short-term are Manica Diamonds and Triangle.
“Manica are very ambitious and they have tried to take Mapeza himself, but there was no deal reached,” said a source.
“Pasuwa could even be a better choice for them to win the league title. But at the same time, Triangle could also make a move. Yes, they have a good coach in Mangwiro, but Pasuwa comes with a different CV.”
In the long term, it will not be surprising if Ngezi and Chicken Inn also make moves.
The two clubs have experienced coaches in Rodwell Dhlakama and Joey Antipas respectively, but if offered Pasuwa, difficult decisions could be made.
Pasuwa won four consecutive titles with Dynamos from 2011 to 2014.
Since then, Dynamos are yet to win a league title, making it difficult for DeMbare supporters and other fans in general to ignore Pasuwa’s impact.
And in 2017, Pasuwa showed his prowess by taking the Zimbabwe Warriors to the AFCON finals in Gabon after a long absence from Africa’s big tournament.
Although Zimbabwe did not progress to the group stages, they played well in what was a group of death – with Algeria, Senegal and Tunisia being the Warriors’ competition.
Pasuwa has also taken the league title in Malawi and Nyasa Big Bullets were solid in their last CAF Champions league campaign before being stopped by FC Platinum. Nhau/Indaba
