Bindura Man Jailed For Stealing $77 Million Dollar Rolex

Tanaka Tsuro (29), son of a former Bindura Provincial Registrar, appeared at the Bindura Magistrates court Wednesday facing allegations of stealing a Rolex watch worth $77 million.

The costly watch belongs to a local gold buyer, Darlington ‘De Beers’ Kangara.

Tsuro initially appeared on Tuesday when he pleaded guilty to the charges and was remanded in custody over night.

Prosecuting, Chipo Chinoda alleged that on an unknown date in November last year, ‘De Beers’ parked his Land Cruiser at Shashi View (Piki ) shopping centre.

He left the vehicle unlocked and unattended before entering one of the shops.

Tsuro opened the driver’s door and took the watch and left unnoticed.

‘De Beers’ discovered the theft and filed a police report at Chiwaridzo Police Station.

On March 4, Lovemore Gama, one of De Beer’s friends, spotted the watch being worn by one, Tanaka Machemba, at Chicken Inn Bindura.

Gama informed De Beer and he called police detectives, who nabbed Machemba.

During interrogation, Machemba revealed that he had bought the watch from Blessing Masvaya who had also bought it from Tsuro.

Bindura magistrate, Samantha Dhlamini sentenced Tsuro to 12 months behind bars.

However, four months of the sentence were suspended on condition of good behavior.

Tsuro will effectively serve eight months in prison. Nhau/Indaba
