Harare City Parking Firm Under Probe

Local Government minister, July Moyo, has appointed a committee of investigators to probe the operations of Harare City and City Parking following suspicions of malpractice and a series of complaints from the motoring public against the entities, Nhau/Indaba has established.

The team comprising of R. Chimowa as chairperson, T. Mutambanengwe (Deputy Director Urban Transport), I. Mungure, (Deputy Director Harare Metropolitan Province), Dr.T. Marufu (Financial Advisor-Head Office), S. Hlatswayo (Legal Adviser-Head Office) and L. Gopozah (PAO Urban Locacal Authorities) as secretary has been given a 10-day ultimatum to complete the probe and thereafter submit a report of their findings to the minister within five working days.

A letter seen by Nhau/Indaba, addressed to Chimowa, Moyo instructed the team to look into parking fees, average daily collection levels and the shareholding structure between Council and City Parking.

They are also to establish the relationship,if any, between ZRP Harare Traffic and City Parking as well as any other issue “incidental to or arising” from the concerns under probe.

The letter was copied to Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume, Secretary for Provincial Affairs and devolution Tafadzwa Muguti and acting Harare Town Clerk Phakamile Mabhena Moyo.

The City of Harare will bear the costs of the investigation in accordance to provisions of section 313 of the Urban Councils Act Chapter 29:15. Nhau/Indaba
