Bindura Municipality Circumvents Erratic Power Supplies To Provide Residents With Water

Bindura Bureau
Bindura Municipality has started operating its water works station during wee hours of the day as a result of incessant power outages rocking the Mashonaland Central capital, Nhau/Indaba has established.

Mayor Brian Kembo confirmed that the ongoing intensive national load shedding made them reach a consensus with the council management to treat the water over night and immediately pump it to residents, capitalising on the availability of electricity during those hours.

This has improved the town’s water supply although supplies are stilll inadequate for the residents.Water supplies are now done between 3am to 6am to allow residents to consume what they pay for according to the local authority.

“We have realised that it is not worth it to have our residents suffering due to load shedding hence we managed to curb this problem by having a team that is working throughout the night at the treatment plant,” he said.

Concillor Kembo admitted that they have been failing stakeholders and appealed to well-wishers for the installation of solar power to operate the station.

For months residents of Chipindura, Chipadze, Aerodrome, Chiwaridzo and Brockdale have been enduring long dry spells with no running water on their taps despite their efforts to pay their monthly bills.

He reminded residents to pay their water bills in time as their levies were necessary to purchase chemicals and catering for salaries for workers at the pant.

“And ratepayers, do not forget to pay your bills on time, we also need money to purchase the treatment chemicals and to pay our employees who work to have the services available.

“Proper service delivery comes as a result of the residents paying up their bills in time so that we get the chemicals needed for clean water supply,” he said. Nhau/Indaba
